RN Desk: Samiul and Nefaul established their 25-bigha jujube orchard in Dangipara, Ward No. 8, Rohanpur Municipality, by leasing land. The two are relatives and decided to embark on this journey together.
After spending eight years abroad, Samiul returned home and found himself unemployed. One day, while browsing YouTube, he came across videos on jujube farming. Intrigued, he discussed the idea with his relative Nefaul Rahman, who was already involved in agriculture and trading fresh produce in local markets. Encouraged by their discussions, they initially leased 16 bighas of land to start their orchard. Although their first attempts weren’t highly successful, favorable weather conditions this year have led to a bountiful harvest.
A Variety of Jujube Cultivated
The orchard boasts a variety of high-yielding jujube types, including:
To maintain the orchard, 25 to 30 workers are employed daily for plant care and harvesting. These workers earn between 400 to 450 taka per day.
With their successful harvest and growing demand for high-quality jujube, Samiul and Nefaul’s orchard is a shining example of how innovative agricultural practices can lead to profitable farming ventures in Bangladesh.
