RN Desk: A massive Katla fish was caught in a fisherman’s net in the Padma River in Rajbari district. The fish weighed 18 kg and was purchased by a wholesale trader for 30,600 Taka, hoping to make a profit.

Early Friday morning, in the Godar Bazar area of the district, fisherman Jalal Pramanik caught the fish in his net while fishing in the Padma River.

Fisherman Jalal Pramanik said, “My companions and I cast our nets in various parts of the Padma River from early morning. After waiting for a long time, we felt a strong pull, and when we pulled the net up, a large Katla fish was trapped inside.”

Momin Mondal, a fish wholesaler from Daulatdia Ghat, said, “In the morning, the 18 kg Katla fish was auctioned and bought by Chandu Molla at a rate of 1,700 Taka per kg, totaling 30,600 Taka. He is now looking for buyers and will sell the fish as soon as he gets a slight profit.”

He further added, “As the water level in the Padma River decreases, such large fish are being caught more frequently. This is bringing joy to the fishing families.”
